Focal Length basically defines a particular property of lens which is the size of lens. If size of lens is small its focal length is also very less.
Now, think what will be the difference of different focal lengths the difference is very unique, depending on how much area you are capturing while taking the photos.
If you go with lower lens let’s say 11mm lenses that is available on your mobile’s ultrawide camera they are approximately 16mm equivalent by which you will get wide field of view. But, by standing on that place if you change your lens whose focal length is much so you will get a tele photo shot and background will also get converged and your photo will be very unique this is the main property of the focal length.

Now just think the lens present in the IPhone and its focal length is 120mm.Can physical distance is of 120mm inside the phone? No, its not possible.
Because it is always equivalent to a full frame because here in IPhone sensor is small frame is also small, if we talk about the actual focal length of IPhone is it is roughly 15.5mm.
If 15.5mm comes along with 2.8 aperture so if we calculate it its opening size which exactly comes it is just 5.5mm so there is a massive difference between DSLRS camera and a phone camera because in DSLRS you will get sensors so big that there is no match with that of mobile phones sensors you can’t even compare, so you must understand now that these properties can change your photos completely.
If we only talk about Aperture for example we take a photo with 35mm lens and aperture is 2.8and on the other hand same photo with same framing and aperture is again the same 2.8 but this one we take from 120mm you will instantly look at the difference that aperture is same but then because the Focal Length is more you will find out that the background blur is very prominent and is much more.
Now, you will clearly understand that how all these lenses give you the power to express, they give you the power to completely change the story because they have different properties and these lenses are useful to you in different ways whether its aperture is 1.8 but still because it is of 11mm lens the blur you will get is not that prominent but on the other hand with the telephoto lens the blur you will get is of next level.
